2. Gratitude

Appreciating our blessings inspires us to see that more is possible

In the inital post we discussed that the first thing we need to do is shift our mindset to have a positive view of Allah, ourseves and others. The place to start this work is with gratitude. Being grateful allows us to see the blessings and good that Allah has provided us, that is within us and within others. I’ve included an audio note that is about 10 mins long and below is an outline.

Gratitude outline (audio here):

  • Allah — Focus on what Allah has given you and you will see the opportunities that can arise from that. Think less about what you don’t have or haven’t received yet.
  • Yourself — Don’t take for granted the goodness in you and what you do. Allah placed goodness within each of us and that you are *acting* on that goodness is something to be proud of and appreciate yourself for.
  • Others — Anything someone else does for you is a gift. Don’t assume you deserve it or that you can always expect it. Appreciate and be grateful for everything others are.
Practice tip:

Take dedicated time to think about the things your greatful for. This is not just an intellectual excersise what you want to do is feel the feelings of greatfulness within you. You want to let you heart swell to truly appreciate the gifts and blessings that you’re thinking about. If you are just listing out items and not feeling it inside keep trying until you do.

EXERCISE:

Think of one thing you are greatful for- now list reasons why its so important and valuable to you. Think about how that thing came to you and what your life would be like without it. Allow your heart to swell up with appricition that you have this.

This post is part 2 of a series see the other posts here.
